Buccaneers, Cowboys and Packers among the best NFL ticket prices in secondary markets

Everyone has their say on the best NFL games now that the full schedule is out. Is this the Chiefs and Buccaneers Week 4 Super Bowl LV rematch? Or perhaps the season opener between the Bills and the Rams, defending Super Bowl champions, at the site of their conquest, SoFi Stadium? We have our own ideas of what’s best.

But what does the market say, that is to say the prices on the secondary exchanges since the tickets went on sale on Thursday evening? And which team is the most expensive and least expensive average ticket? (Hint, fans attending Packers games will need to reach for their wallets while fans heading to Falcons competitions at Mercedes-Benz Stadium can afford to bring the whole family.)

Data keeps coming in and different ticketing platforms have different results. But a few notable observations are already emerging, including the Raiders no longer enjoying the most expensive average ticket as the club enters its second season at Allegiant Stadium with fans, and the Bengals, despite their Super Bowl run, are one cheapest tickets.

“Prices have normalized year over year,” Kyle Zorn, brand manager at secondary ticketing platform TickPick, said of Vegas entry costs.

The best runaway game on the TickPick platform is the Packers game against the Cowboys in Green Bay on Nov. 13, averaging $690, followed by the opening game between the Cowboys and Buccaneers in Dallas, at $509.

At SeatGeek, which is an official NFL partner, the top-selling game is the Chiefs-Bucs game averaging $503 per ticket, followed by Russell Wilson’s return to Seattle as the Broncos, his new team, take on his former team, the Seahawks. This opening day contest will cost a fan an average of $493.

“Tampa at Dallas looks like an absolute behemoth of a game so far,” said Patrick Ryan, founder of Eventellect, a ticket strategy company. “And then the Las Vegas Raiders hosting the 49ers feels like it’s going to be one of those, you know, kind of all-time games in terms of ticket prices.”

The cheapest ticket to the New Year’s Eve game in Vegas against the Niners is currently trading at $549 on Stubhub.

But Ryan notes that a trend that happened in the NBA last season continues in the early hours of NFL ticket sales: fans are willing to pay for marquee games, but not for lower level. While that’s always been the case, the gap has widened, Ryan said. The pandemic has made people value their time more, he explained, and they may no longer be willing to spend four to five hours at an NFL game if the pre-game hype isn’t. not here.

To wit, the average ticket price for the perennially downtrodden Jets, playing in the nation’s biggest media market, is the third-lowest in the league, according to TickPick at $145 a seat. The Falcons, who traded longtime star quarterback Matt Ryan and are also playing in a big market, close the pack at $95 per ticket, with the Commanders stuck between them at $108 per ticket, according to TickPick.

Notably, the fifth-cheapest are the AFC champions Bengals, according to TickPick, showing that the years of disappointment in the Queen City are not easy to overcome. The average ticket price is $167.

At the top end, SeatGeek has the Bucs as the top-selling ticket at $474, followed by the Cowboys ($259) and Bills ($240). The Bucs’ number, SeatGeek noted, is skewed by the first two home games against the Packers and Chiefs. In contrast, TickPick has the most expensive seats at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, followed by Vegas, Tampa and Dallas.

The Raiders and Patriots were the most expensive to see last year (the Patriots’ number was somewhat affected by the huge demand surrounding Tom Brady’s return to Foxborough). But the main storyline for the 2021 season tickets was the high prices to get in to see the Raiders in person for the first time in Las Vegas.

Last year, the average price to see silver and black topped $700 a ticket; according to TickPick, the ticket now costs $436. That ranks second behind the Green Bay Packers at $551, according to TickPick, which may reflect fans wanting to make sure they see Aaron Rodgers play if this somehow becomes his final season.

“Their schedule has a lot of great matches,” added Zorn.

The Patriots’ average price so far, according to TickPick, is $360, fifth-highest in the league.

Like any asset, tickets will fluctuate across all market platforms, so dog games from a price point of view might not be in a few months. The prices quoted here are a snapshot of the value fans currently place on teams and certain matchups.

While the platforms may have slightly different top games and teams by price, data from the two here, TickPick and SeatGeek, shows that the average price in the league is trending down. According to SeatGeek, the average ticket price at this point last year was $411, while it is currently $307.

And TickPick’s numbers are $281 last year versus $260 so far this season.

Of course, it is possible that the trends are different on other platforms. Logitix, which offers ticketing services to teams and leagues, did the math from last year when tickets went on sale in various secondary markets and reports that the average ticket price has increased by 21%. to reach $301.
